Your Photographer: Amy E. Powers

Art Through Photography

I am a Detroit based photojournalist.  I have worked in the daily news field for over 15 years, with 10 of those years as a staff photographer for The Oakland Press.  I am the owner of Amy Powers Photography studio in Birmingham, Michigan and Agapé Images, Inc., a photography business based in Royal Oak, Michigan.

My work has been published in newspapers, national magazines and exhibits.  My assignments include photos for The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, Associated Press, Corbis, Reuters, Miami Herald, Time, and Newsweek and in exhibits in Michigan and New England.  I have won several national and regional awards and my photography has been recognized by the Michigan Press Photographers Association, The National Press Photographers Association and The Associated Press, among others.

Although I’ve covered presidents and papal visits, capturing the images of daily life is my passion.  Whether it is a wedding or portrait, I enjoy the art of photography and wish to make artful photography available at a more accessible price.  For it is who we are, captured in a photograph, that lingers in our memory and makes up our history.
